During college I started a group of us going into the city to hang out with homeless families. Weekly we would hit the streets and spend time with our newfound friends. After a while we started going down with nothing but ourselves and we would sleep on the streets. We did this to alleviate power dynamics, and God said don’t worry about tomorrow because tomorrow will worry about itself, so we tested God on this…God was right… God took care of us.
There is a General Strike called for on February 17th, 2017. It is time for universal solidarity and resistance to tangible and blatant injustices that are mounting every day during this worsening political and social climate in the United States. Bigotry is being codified by politicians and economic warfare is being waged by the wealthy with the conservative government’s full backing.
We need to ask ourselves seriously how we are going to resist. How are we going to disempower the centers of money and power in tangible ways? How are we going to support each other through this? Solidarity comes at a high price in times like these. None of us can go this alone and expect success. History, however, has shown us that when we go it together, we can beat back tyranny.
